Your treatment

The first treatment

Your initial session will take up to 90 minutes and begins with an in-depth consultation to carefully identify the key areas for which you seek treatment. This includes lifestyle details, diet, sleep and relevant medical history.

Some simple physical checks are performed to help establish a correct diagnosis. Your first acupuncture treatment will then follow. Please come wearing loose fitting clothing, and be prepared at times to remove outer clothing. Blankets are provided for your comfort.

Subsequent treatments

Following treatments are up to 60 minutes and each treatment is tailored to your specific needs.

A normal course of treatment would be a weekly appointment for five weeks, progressing to fortnightly and then proceeding to longer intervals as and when required. Individual treatments can also be booked.

Once improvements have been made, regular maintenance treatments can be spaced out to monthly, every other month, or even seasonally four times a year, should you wish to.

Patient safety

My treatment room at The Practice in Thame is a place of patient safety, respect and care.

Chinese Medicine is a person-centred and judgement-free practice and all of my patients are treated with unconditional positive regard.

Treatments will be administered in a safe, comfortable environment in accordance with industry standards. Patients are treated with single-use disposable needles, which are then disposed of according to current legislation.

Acupuncture can work in synergy with Western medicine, and I am happy to work collaboratively with other healthcare providers and/or your GP.

Claire The Practice

Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments currently on offer in the UK. In 2001 a number of studies concluded that the risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000.

Any minor side effects that do occur, such as dizziness or bruising around needle points, are infrequent, mild and usually self-correcting.
